ITINERARY SUMMARY

Integrated into the Congo basin, the Lobéké national park is located at the extreme south-east of Cameroon. It covers an area of 217,854 hectares and is adjacent to two other national parks in the Central African Republic (Dzanng-sangha national park) and the Republic of Congo (parc national de Nouabale ndoki) with which it forms the tri-national (TNS), cross-border conservation initiative of biodiversity and UNESCO world heritage.
In Lobéké national park, there are continuously small “bai” or forest clearings that attract a large variety of fauna with large mammals (gorillas, chimpanzees, elephants, buffaloes, and antelopes). The Lobéké has a rich and varied biodiversity in plant and wildlife resources as there are 45 mammals species, 305birds species, 18 reptiles species, 16 amphibians species, 134 fishes species, 215 butterflies species, 764 plant species belonging to 102 families which have been identified.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Welcoming at Yaoundé international airport in the night, and transfer to hotel la Falaise or similar (4 stars) for diner and overnight
Day 2: Yaoundé- Doume – Bertoua(340 kilometers)
In early morning, quick visit of the city before driving from Yaoundé to Bertoua, the head quarter of East Region, with stops on the way to visit some attractions and relics of colonization in Cameroon. Free relaxation in the evening, diner and overnight in hotel Mansa (3 stars).
Day 3: Bertoua- Yokadouma- Mambele (430 kilometers)
Early breakfast and departure to Mambele. Long driving day, with about 300 kilometers of untarred road. Visit on the way of refugee camps of Central African Republic citizens. Diner and overnight in the guest house of the Lobeke national park.
Day 4: Lobeke national park
Administrative formalities with park authorities in the morning, then drive from park headquarter to car drop off point. Hike about 6 kilometers to the first watch tower (Petite savanne). Safaris from there till evening. Camping in forest, overnight in tents.
NB: You have chances to watch elephants, buffaloes, gorillas, bongos, sitatungas, giant forest hogs, monkeys, etc.
Day 5: Lobeke national park
Safaris from “Petite Savanne” watchtower in the morning, then hike in the forest about 8 kilometers to another watch tower (Djangui). Safaris in the afternoon then overnight in tents at the base.
NB: You have chances to watch grey parrots, several species of birds, elephants, buffaloes, gorillas, bongos, sitatungas, monkeys, etc.
Day 6: Lobeke national park
Safaris from “Djangui” watchtower in the morning, then hike in the forest about 8 kilometers back to “Petite savane” watch tower. Safaris in the afternoon then overnight in tents at the base.
Day 7: Lobeke national park- Mambéle
Safaris from “Petite savanne” watchtower in the morning, then hike in the forest about 6 kilometers back to the car drop off point. Drive to the park head quarter and check-in the guest house; free relaxation. In evening, organization of a pygmy danse and enjoyment with locals. Diner and overnight.
Day 8: Mambele- Yokadouma- Bertoua(430 km)
Early departure from Mambele to Bertoua. Diner and overnight in Mansa hotel(3 stars hotel).
Day 9: Bertoua- Yaoundé (340 km) – return flight
After breakfast, drive to Yaoundé. Visit the handicraft center for souvenirs. Early diner, and transfer to the airport for return flight.
End of tour.
